Dehydration

I always said I would never be the one who would go through this problem.. When I went to the Dr's the Thursday before last I was told I needed to start taking my Iron Pills again on top of uping my dose of Calcium, starting a Nixon Pill and Vitamin C... .  So I started all this on Friday.. then Sunday at Church I start to feel really light headed.. Didnt think much of it.. just thought maybe my body was getting used to the new meds and increase in other meds.  Thursday I went and got my B12 shot and when I got home I was wiped out.. I sat down to take a breather and before I even knew It was out cold.  I slept for a good 45 min.  Friday the same thing.. every time I sat down to take a breather I was out for the count.  It got me a little worried so I called the Dr's office.  They made me an appt for Monday and said if it gets worse by all means go to the ER.  Well that night I got this splitting headache.. I mean I could not get it to go away.. went to be early woke up a bit in the evening.. then back to bed.. Woke up this morning and I could just feel something was wrong.  My whole body was off wack.. dizzy, seeing spots, skin felt clammy, my headache was killing me and I had to drag myself out of bed.. so I went down to the ER.. and low and behold I am suffering from slight dehydration.. WTH!!  Then I realize of course I probably am.. I havent been able to stay awake for very long during the day so of course it leaves me very little time to get any fluids or even food in at all.  So they filled me up with fluids and sent me home to go and see the Dr. on Monday.. guess I will not hear the end of it when I see the Dr Monday.. great.. and here I thought I would be so good and get all my fluids in..  Guess I am not the Perfect Post Surgery patient after all!!  Remember everyone Drink up..  and sip sip sip all day long.. it can creep up on you when you least expect it!!

# 1 reason for reentry into the hospital...Drum roll...With hot weather coming on be extra careful.  I asked Dr. Coirin if it would be wise to have patients on their one week post op visit to stay awhile at their office and just get an IV bag of electrolites.  For those who may be dehydrated.  He thought about it, but didn't say anything.  It seems every waking minute your eating or sipping something the first few months.  It will get easier.  But for now...Big time retraining.  Hope your feeling better.  Brian

Hey girl!  I can't believe that!  And you've always been so good about getting your fluids in!  Yikes, that means we're all in danger! I hope you're feeling better, it sounds like it was really scary.  Are you feeling better now that you're re-hydrated?   Are you going to be at the support group on Monday night?  I hope to see you there!

Hey DeAnna.. I am feeling a little better.. my headache is gone but I am still feeling exhausted even today.  So glad to be going to the Dr's office tomorrow.. I have every intention of being at the support meeting tomorrow night.  Look forward to seeing you all.  And today I have been drink drink drinking.. lol and I am starting to keep a journal on my fluid intake as well.  I did for the longest time then just sort of stoped.. so I am back on it again.. the most dissappointing thing to me was I lost NO weight this past week.   But that is ok its only one week.  See ya tomorrow nights.. thanks for the support!!

I will really be interested in what your doctor says.  I can't imagine just slight dehydration would cause all that.   Hope you are now feeling better.  But let us know what your doc does say. Diane

Hey Diane.. I am with you on that one.. even the ER Dr said that the slight dehydration wouldnt cause that much fatigue.  My electrolytes were not too low at all.. but I am thinking maybe that tied in with my enemia.. hmmm I definatly look forward to finding out what it is tomorrow AM.. Like I said to DeAnna.. my headache went away but I still feel very exhausted even today..  I will keep you all posted.  Thanks for the support!!  (((HUGS)))

Hey sweetheart! I am soooooooooo sorry that that is happening to you. I hope they can figure out what is up tomorrow. If it helps, when my iron was REALLY low, I felt really dizzy, got shortness of breath really easily, felt clammy, fatigued and I looked pale. Since I've been taking my iron I haven't felt the same way. I hope that it will be an easy remedy for you. I hope to see you tomorrow, but if not, we totally understand. Let me know if you need anything at all.
